This Zi Char Store in Alexandra Food Village (yep, another food paradise) has received a lot of positive feedback. The sambal stingray served here is frequently enormous, juicy, and generously covered in sambal.

For about $8, you may purchase a good, thick piece of stingray that has been generously covered in sambal paste. The sambal sauce at BJ Grill has a sweet base and is moderately spicy. They are very new and nothing is known about them, however, they have earned several 5-star ratings on Facebook and the impressions of an online food critic seem to be favorable.

Even their stingray has an intriguing garlic butter flavor that they developed. Therefore, those who have a low tolerance for spice may now eat stingrays without spitting out buckets of profanity. They also offer a stingray that is half sambal and half garlic butter, which they refer to as the “Yuan Yang” stingray. Yes, this encourages me to visit and give it a try!

I initially thought, “Wait, they sell stingrays too?” when I first saw their signboard, which is 80% packed with crabs. In fact, they do. In fact, Xin Fu Ji was among my favorite Sambal Stingrays. You get a packet of tissues from Xin Fu Ji with any seafood order. Yes, a complete packet—now that’s good hawker center service!

Strangely shaped stingray, but the sambal was excellent – the right amount of sweet, sour, and spicy. The meat had exactly the right amount of flavor and marinade, although it was a little bit dry. The best sambal stingray chili sauce I’ve ever had completely won my heart.

The sambal was so delicious that I kept eating it by itself and even wanted to bring the sauce home with me. Unfortunately (I inquired), they don’t sell their sauce. Others might not find it spicy enough, though. They made their own chinchalok, which had a mostly onion and lime flavor that was pleasantly sweet and tangy. They were grateful that their lime had plenty of juice.

Awesome food! We went back 3 times in 2 months. The cockles were fresh and the sauce is yummy! Prawns were delicious whichever way it was cooked, grilled, or steamed with Chinese wine. Though the name of the booth and the food may appear dissimilar, Tokyo is aware of the significance of her Stingray. Many people have been praising Tokyo’s cuisine, including Hungrygowhere, which listed Tokyo on its list of “Singapore’s Best Sambal Stingray” restaurants.

Tokyo does the stingray flesh credit by keeping the meat’s softness and juiciness while maintaining attractively crisp and charred sides. But a little extra sambal would be welcome.
