This reminds me a lot of the 1960s when hawker stall workers frequently cooked noodles over a charcoal fire. Since then, Geylang Lor 29 has been dishing up this traditional hawker fare, and it never disappoints. To enjoy the smokey aroma of this dish, you probably turn your nose up!
Seafood lovers will like Geylang Lor 29’s Hokkien noodles since each plate comes with more fresh prawns and squid than you’ll find elsewhere. Along with the well-known fried prawn Hokkien Mee, other dishes available include an oyster omelet and carrot cake. Both have nice flavors and are excellent companions for the visitors as they wait for their Hokkien mee.

All of the ingredients are fried together above a charcoal fire in the traditional cooking method used to make Swee Guan Hokkien Mee. This is apparent when you bite into the noodles and taste the “wok hei,” or hint of smokey flavor. The thick yellow noodles are utilized more frequently than the finer bee hoon noodles in Swee Guan Hokkien Mee. I love Hokkien Prawn Mee, one of those must-try Singaporean noodle dishes. When done well it’s cooked with very high heat to get that wokhei that makes the dish so much better. It does make a difference since Come Daily employs a strong prawn flavor whereas several Hokkien mee places use chicken or hog broth. When you order the wok hei fried noodles with spicy sambal and creamy, sweet prawn stock, you will know you are eating authentic Hokkien prawn mee.
While the majority of Hokkien mee stalls in Singapore focus heavily on seafood toppings like squid and prawn, Come Daily liberally incorporates pig belly pieces and lard crackles into the noodles in place of the seafood. Perfect fat infusion into the stock gives it a richer, more flavorful flavor.

Came here on a Saturday around 11 am. The first thing you want to do is place an order and get a buzzer. The Hokkien Mee is really good and this version has slightly more sauce. However, refrain from making snap judgments. The other components’ rich flavors, as well as the fine bee hoon noodles, do an excellent job of soaking the gravy foundation. You will therefore get a Hokkien mee that ranges from dry to moistened but is still flavorful with seafood, chile, and eggs.
