As a predominantly Chinese-populated country, Singapore has long been a location where the Mid-Autumn Festival is held in high regard. It’s a moment for folks to say hello and show thanks to one another. They send moon cakes to one other as friends, family, or business partners to offer their cordial welcomes and well wishes.
Because the majority of Singaporeans are of Chinese heritage, many Mid-Autumn Festival rituals are comparable to those seen in China, particularly in the southeast coastal towns of Guangdong and Fujian.
We’ve compiled a list of 10 of Singapore’s finest and highest-quality moon cakes.

Our delicious mooncakes are exquisitely handmade, following the original recipes and unique taste that have been handed down from generations. Our mooncakes are made from the finest natural ingredients without preservatives added. Our aromatic superior groundnut oil is cholesterol-free and very low in saturated fats. All our mooncakes also contain olive kernel (榄仁), an expensive nut sometimes known as chinese pine kernel or white chinese olive. It has a delicate flavour, flaky-texture and cream in colour. Under stringent quality control, the fillings are made from the famous Hu-Nan superior grade lotus seeds (湘莲), which have a soft and splendid flavour. The delicate skin that wrapped the fillings is skillfully handmade, moulded distinctly and made from bromate-free flour.

A chance encounter with a secret family mooncake recipe which had no succession plan spurred forth a desire to preserve legacies, and Christine studied the traditional production methods under her uncle, the original family mooncake master. She spent months mastering original textures and taste, and then tested ways to build on what she learned.
On a constant journey to discover fresh ingredients for her new ‘baby’ (the patisserie), recipes were tweaked, tried and tested using only fresh fruits, vegetables and other fresh and natural ingredients. The key was to achieve the triple whammy taste test – Tempting, Tasty and True deliciousness in every bite.

Traditional Chinese pastries hold a special place in the hearts of the Chinese people, a unique heritage where each pastry has its roots in our culture, such as eating the tang yuan (汤圆) to mark the beginning of Winter and the rice cake (年糕) during Chinese New Year to imply plentiful harvest. The mooncake (月饼), especially, brings to mind a time of reunion with loved ones under the mid-Autumn full moon.

In the 1950s, Katong was well-known for its unique Peranakan culture and cuisine. Since then, it’s seen its fair share of changes. As gentrification encroaches on the spaces that Katong’s heritage businesses once called home, Sinpopo Brand took it upon ourselves in 2013 to preserve what was left of the neighbourhood’s greats. We wanted to keep as much of Katong’s traditions as we could alive while adapting to this ever-changing neighbourhood.
We don’t simplify or fusion-ise, and a hipster café we are not. We do things the traditional way we learned as local artisanal bakers and chefs. Where our inspiration, families, surroundings and dreams lead us, we take heart in what we have learned from our traditions to make things better.
