Rolina Traditional Hainanese Curry Puffs, a stand that sells curry puffs, is situated at Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre and has been in business since 1958. This booth may be recognizable to some of you because it used to be located outside Novena Church.
The Hainanese sailor-chef who trained Mr. Tham, the proprietor of this stand, is the source of their famous handmade Hainanese Curry Puff ($1.80). Despite being on the smaller side, it is stuffed with of hard-boiled egg and curried potatoes. If you like curry puffs and spicy cuisine, their fillings are a little hotter than those found in standard curry puffs, and you must try them.
I love curry puffs, and Rolina definitely has one of the better-tasting ones in Singapore. I especially like the very thin crispy crust, unlike the thick crust that you usually get elsewhere. And I like the unique spice of the fillings. Can use a little bit more chicken though. Sardine puff is just as good but really small. – Robin “Slinger” Tan

Few people are aware of Soon Soon Huat Crispy Curry Puff, which is tucked away on the peaceful East Coast Road. The cost of their curry puffs ranges from $1.50 to $2. Purchase their $2 Chicken Potato with Egg Curry Puff; it is a delicious option for breakfast and tea time. It has layers on the outside that mimic the contour lines of a map and are sharp and thin. Since the filling is savory and moderately flavorful, even children may enjoy this snack. It feels better since the potatoes are chunkier than in conventional curry puffs. If you enjoy durian as much as I do, you might also want to try their Durian Puffs ($2.80).
Flaky and buttery crust. Delicious! Curry filling flavours lack depth… need more sweetness from the use of onions no bad to eat but definitely not the best on the island. Great service from the counter, The wife only has enough cash to pay for 9 but intended to buy 10 (yes, no electronics payment). The cashier simply waived off the loose change. Superb customer service! – Poh Soh Lee

Curry puffs from 1A Crispy Puff feature a recognizable fan-like form with a multi-layered crust. They’ve been operating since 1991, and they create some very good curry puffs. This is demonstrated by their iconic $1.80 Crispy Curry Chicken Puff. It has buttery, flaky skin that is thin and crunchy in an irresistible way. It is recommended to devour their curry puffs as soon as possible because they are always served boiling hot.
Can’t go wrong with their curry puffs flaky and delicious, but I enjoy the curry chicken with the bread more. This is all I can think about while I was suffering in -20° winter in Winnipeg. This bowl of curry is all I dream of and long for, and I can enjoy it now that I’m back. – Joash B

If you haven’t, give Tip Top a try; it’s absolutely worth it. Their $2.30 Nyonya Beef Rendang Puff will blow you away. The puffs are deep-fried to a lovely golden brown, yet they are not too greasy. When you bite into the crispy shell, you’ll find juicy beef pieces that have been well-seasoned and cooked in rich rendang sauce. In addition, they offer classic Sardine Puffs ($1.90) and Chicken Curry Puffs ($2.30).
The location is very good and convenient! Just turn left where you see the 7-Eleven when you exit Raffles Place MRT. Then go up the escalator, turn left immediately, and turn left again then go up the stairs and you will see the stall on your right. Always go here for their Nasi Lemak or Bihun for breakfast. The portion is quite decent too! The Q is not long and the staff are friendly! You can also add nuggets, fish balls or anything that they have. Their Curry Puff is freshly made and good too! – YJ

In Ubi, Fang Handmade Curry Puff provides handcrafted puffs in uncommon flavors for reasonable costs. Go for the thin, flaky puff pastry with curry potato and chicken bits in it that is their famous Chicken Curry ($1.50). If you’d rather try something else, they also have puffs with mayo tuna and salted egg lava for $1.50 and $1.60, respectively. The former is a butter, custard powder, and milk mixture that is sweet and savory; it makes a nice lunchtime snack.
Really tasty pastry / outer crust, crispy but thin enough and not oily, to let you enjoy more than 1 pc of curry puff. The filling is tasty and value for money. Has a great curry flavor (curry puff) and the black pepper puff is not too peppery. My family and I really enjoy their puffs. Even their egg tart is lovely. We’ve eaten this numerous times! Definitely recommended! – Lydia Chong

The extra-large Curry Puffs ($2.20) at Swisslink Bakery & Cafe in Clementi deserve more recognition than only being known for their chicken and apple pies. Instead of the typical puff crescents, these substantial packages are triangles and are fashioned of incredibly thin, flaky pastry that is on the softer side. The filling is abundant and quite spicy as well.
My dad bought this chicken pie for me to try and it was so good! Loved that it had big chunks of potatoes and chicken. The crust is crispy and buttery. Very generous with their filling as there are 4 eggs in it too. – Pamela Lam

The Old Airport Road Food Centre’s underappreciated treasure, the Wang Wang Crispy Curry Puff, has been operating for more than 20 years. The family, who begin work each day at 6:30 am, meticulously makes their curry puffs each day. The famous Curry ($1.60) puff has layers that are incredibly crisp on the exterior and a generous amount of homemade curry chicken and potato stuffing within. While you’re there, try their sardine puffs ($1.60) and yam paste as well!
By far the best curry puff I have had in Singapore. The puff was crusty and fluffy, not oily at all. Baked? I am not a chef, so someone must teach me. The filling has a lot of potato and chicken. Has just a bit of kick, tender meat, nice curry flavor. The filling is the best part. No wonder people keep coming back. One piece is less than $2, which is quite amazing and generous. So many skills are put into these puffs. What a gem, I tell you. – Shocho Shocho

You lose if you wait since their Crispy Curry Chicken Puff ($1.80) frequently sells out before it gets to you. Should that not be the case, their Crispy Sardine Puff ($1.80) will do. The sweet and tangy flavors in the sardine are well-balanced without being overbearing. The crunchy, flaky exterior will crumble into a mess, and the contents will gush out from inside. If you want to get these treats, arrive early to avoid the lunchtime crush.
I love it! They make the curry puffs fresh and when they serve it to you, it’s still warm and very crispy. The filling is delicious and the chicken is moist. The overall bite is soft and juicy, so don’t expect a firm bite like with Old Chang Kee’s curry puff. 100% would return for another tasty treat. – Elizabeth Chew
