Singapore has a well-deserved reputation for being Asia’s cultural melting pot due to its diversity of races and cultures. The Asian Civilizations Museum (ACM) takes you on a thorough examination of the people from the area who have landed on our shores over the past 200 years to highlight this rich history.
The Asian Civilisations Museum is the only museum in the area that focuses on studying Asia’s creative legacy, particularly Singaporeans’ ancestors’ cultures. The ACM, which opened two additional wings with new galleries in late 2015, was founded in 1993 and has resided in its current facility along the Singapore River since 2003.
Klook.comThe Asian Civilisations Museum highlights the historical links between Asian civilizations and those of the rest of the globe. The Trade and the Exchange of Ideas exhibit, which is located on the ground level, is where you’ll find artifacts and works of art that illustrate Singapore’s past as a hub for international trade.
The Khoo Teck Puat gallery, located in the riverside wing of the ACM, houses the famed Tang Shipwreck collection, a sort of time capsule containing artifacts from 9th-century China that were kept secret from the outside world until their 1998 discovery.
After that, visit the museum’s first place for modern art in the Kwek Hong Png Wing, which is on the ground level. More than 300 beautiful Chinese ceramics from the museum’s collection are also shown on the third level of the wing. The Ancient Religions Gallery and the Scholar in Chinese Culture Gallery are two further galleries at the ACM.
The ACM is much more than only an amazing history lesson. Programs, where you may engage deeply with culture and the arts, can be expected, such as the yearly River Nights.

I spent 3 hours inside, have two restaurants available inside with 10% discounts on the ticket. Suggest to get the ticket in advance, but you can get it at the main entrance as well. I love how they display information about different religions on the second floor; I feel like there is a lot of background history. The special exhibition about fashion is fantastic; they got a bracelet for you to interact around the showroom to collect different patterns and an AR game for you to try on fashion you design with printed and email pictures available. – Yvonne Luk
In the Asian Civilisations Museum is a large number of interesting and valuable objects on display, such as works of art, crafts, and historical and religious items. I highly recommend the visit. – Christina M
ACM has so many sections, each focusing on a different event/ topic related to Asian history. The Tang shipwreck room with all the objects found on the ship is fascinating! The sculptures from different Asian countries with a bit of their history, the painted porcelain bowls…there is so much to see! – Rekha Krishnan
