There are 20 people still receiving treatment in intensive care units at three hospitals in Bangkok.
Nearly 60 people, including five Singaporeans, are still receiving medical treatment in three hospitals in Bangkok, Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital said in a statement on Wednesday (May 22).
Twenty patients are being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), while the other 38 are receiving in-patient care.
Of the five Singaporeans being treated in three Bangkok hospitals, two are in the ICU. The patients sustained injuries during a Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight that encountered severe turbulence on its way from London to Singapore, leading to a medical emergency and an unscheduled landing in Bangkok.
Currently, 41 patients are in Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, 15 are in Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital, and two are in Bangkok Hospital. At Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, nine patients successfully underwent surgery on Tuesday, and five more are expected to undergo surgery on Wednesday.
Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital is about a 20-minute drive from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Part of the private healthcare group Samitivej, which has seven hospitals in Thailand, the first hospital was founded in 1979.
According to its website, Samitivej Srinakarin has 400 beds and provides a wide range of medical services for both Thai and foreign nationals. The hospital is conveniently located in eastern Bangkok, an area experiencing rapid development due to its proximity to Suvarnabhumi International Airport, where Samitivej maintains a clinic.
“Patients can be transferred from the hospital to the airport in the shortest time,” the website noted.
