More EV chargers, bicycle lots and super-low energy buildings at upcoming Punggol Digital District

The upcoming Punggol Digital District is set to feature an array of enhancements, including additional EV chargers, bicycle lots, and super-low energy buildings.

The forthcoming Punggol Digital District, Singapore’s inaugural smart and sustainable business park, will boast a reduced number of parking spots but a significantly increased provision of electric vehicle (EV) chargers and bicycle parking lots.

Spread across 50 hectares, roughly equivalent to 70 football fields, the district is set to unveil 96 EV chargers upon its initial phase of opening. JTC, the national industrial estate developer, announced plans to escalate this number to 151, establishing the site as Singapore’s premier location with the highest concentration of EV chargers.

In alignment with the “car-lite” vision, Punggol North’s district will prioritize environmentally friendly transportation, boasting 1,500 bicycle parking lots along with supporting amenities like lockers and shower rooms.

JTC’s group director for new estates, Nelson Liew, highlighted that there will be a reduction in vehicle parking lots, totaling around 1,200. This represents a 50 per cent decrease compared to standard industrial estate requirements.

Moreover, the new business park will integrate infrastructure and technology aimed at optimizing land use and energy efficiency. This initiative is expected to result in a 35 per cent reduction in annual operational carbon emissions, equivalent to removing 4,000 cars from the road, as per JTC’s projections.
