A Penang-born company founded by its CEO Mr. Chan Kee Siak when he was 19, Exabytes started off as a web hosting company providing locally to Penangites before growing bigger across the country. Today, Exabytes is one of Southeast Asia’s leading cloud, eCommerce and digital solutions provider, serving over 160,000 customers (from individuals, students, small & medium-sized businesses, to government and public listed companies) in 121 countries, managing over 1000 servers with 100,000+ websites and 1,000,000+ email accounts.
The name Exabytes itself was born out of the competitive and imaginative tendencies of Chan. He realised that when he came across another company called “Gigabytes,” he wanted to build a bigger and better company, hence the name “Exabytes.”
Chan began his working life as a hawker store helper before enrolling in a local college at the age of 18 and earning his tuition fees by selling PC hardware part-time. When he realised the potential of web hosting and the lack of providers in Malaysia while developing a website for a client, he set up his first web hosting reseller company at the age of 19, which was entirely online, and the business grew from there. Thus, Chan dropped out of college to focus on his online company in order to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Under Chan’s leadership, the Exabytes Group now has 12 branches, ranging from web hosting to eCommerce and e-Deliveries, and serves over 160,000 companies and 1 million customers in 121 countries. Chan is the president of the Internet Alliance, Malaysia, and a 2015 TOYM (Top Outstanding Young Malaysian) honoree in addition to being the local director of Founder Institute. Chan is a co-founder of EasyParcel, EasyStore, EasyWork, and EasySpace, as well as an angel investor in a range of enterprises.

With a passion to grow businesses online, Exabytes is open to corporate social responsibility proposals and they also have a sponsorship program to assist NGOs and not-for-profit organisations in growing their online presence by having a professional website and email account. This will open up opportunities for NGOs and not-for-profit organisations to be found online for those in need to get help, or for the organisations to offer help. Exabytes believes that by offering this small gesture of help to NGOs and not-for-profit organisations, this can alleviate their burden in expenditure and they can put this money to better use to help those in need. NGOs and not-for-profit organisations can apply for a web-presence sponsorship here.
